Mushrooms of Shoal Creek Conservation Area

Shoal Creek Nature Preserve supports an impressive census of fungi species. In years when conditions are most conducive for their growth, a walk through the woods or along the trails will reveal a vast colorful and structural display of these mycological gems.

In 1993-1994, Andy Miller of Raymond, IL, and a student at Eastern Illinois University, conducted a fungi inventory and compiled
a reputable list of species considering the abbreviated time on the project. No collections have been made since then but there are
assuredly many more species to be discovered.

Andy now holds a PhD. in Mycology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is currently the mycologist for the State of Illinois
